Hard disk drives normally make a certain amount of noise. This noise varies from drive to drive, and it may vary from time to time within the lifetime of your drive.
Most hard drive noises can be described as a "whine" or "buzz". Such noises are usually due to resonance effects, and are nothing to worry about. They do not indicate any problem or potential problem with the drive. If the sound is annoying, we suggest you use a long cable and put the drive in another room, in a closet, or on a shelf or table below the level of your desk.
There is one type of noise that may be a cause for concern. If the drive makes a clanking or banging noise, this may indicate a potential problem in the drive mechanism. One or two such incidents are not a cause for concern, but if your drive begins to make this type of noise on a regular basis, you should consider bringing it to your SuperMac dealer to be checked. If in doubt, call Tech Support for advice.
